February post #1!
Hello everybody! My name is Jenna Vann, and I am a junior at Texas Christian University. This semester, I am in Dr. Williams' class titled Urban Wilderness. We are tasked with helping promote the Fort Worth Nature Center & Refuge.
Our first blog post focuses on Dr. Williams's willingness to let us leave class early to go on an intentional walk and take a photo of something meaningful. For me, finding time to walk in a busy schedule can be overwhelming. Having a class dedicated to being outside has opened doors for more excuses to do just that! Being able to set my phone down and take a walk frees my mind from distractions. Although I am not as intentional with walking as I would like to be, having an hour dedicated to letting my thoughts breathe is special. As I went on a walk with my cousin after class, we stumbled upon a very happy fellow named Gus (pictured below). Nothing was stopping him from showing us how good he could roll over. I was extremely impressed. Gus was a very happy and good boy!
Love the photo. Well, I love dogs because they are some of the best people I know. I am glad you got a chance to enjoy your walk. But this walk was work. And that's not an oxymoron. One of your primary assignments this semester is to develop a greater sensitivity to the outside world, especially in urban areas. You don't, of course, have to roll around on the ground like Gus.
